‘Step In’ Support offer for Care Leavers;
Here at the James Paget, we recognise the challenges that young people face when they leave the care system and begin to live independently. Our ‘Step In’ support offer has therefore been developed as part of the Trust’s widening participation plans to offer support to care leavers to improve their life chances and help them make a successful transition to adulthood and the world of working.
Care leavers aged 16 – 25 years who might be interested in gaining experience or exploring work opportunities at the James Paget Hospital, a district general hospital based in Gorleston and covering the area of Great Yarmouth and Waveney, are invited to make contact via:
careleavers@jpaget.nhs.uk.
Care leavers will be offered a one-to-one conversation to discuss their individual interests, strengths and aspirations before supporting to a relevant pathway based on their needs. Our offer includes:
- One-to-one initial discussion to discuss interests and options
- Support with CV / application writing
- Support with interview skills
- Guaranteed interview where minimum requirements for the role are met
Some of the opportunities available, across a huge variety of clinical and non-clinical roles, include:
- Voluntary work
- Work experience
- Bank work
- Apprenticeship programmes
- Substantive employment
Once in employment, we can support with professional development and career coaching.
This is subject to applying following support through our careleavers@jpaget.nhs.uk address.
