Barnardo’s are passionate about supporting care experienced young people into positive destinations including employment! Barnardo’s would like to support care experienced young people through our Kickstart opportunities.

Barnardo’s is a large children’s charity supporting many children, young people and families across the UK for over 150 years! We have a large range of services as well as shops that raise vital funds to support our work.

Who is Kickstart for?

16 to 25 year olds on Universal Credit. Barnardo’s welcomes applications from care leavers (care experienced young people). You will be paid minimum wage for your age and work 25 hours per week. We will provide employability support throughout and support you to learn new skills.

What are the Job Roles and where?

  1. Retail – STORE ASSOCIATES x106

Location; We have over 100 roles about to go live on the DWP system on 19th July- these are all over the England/Scotland and Wales, so please check with your work coach if we have a role in your town/city.

Role; As a Store Associate you will support the team with all aspects of running a busy store, it’s the best of both worlds as you will have responsibilities but also the chance to develop and learn with an experienced store manager by your side. You’ll need to be organised with good communication skills and ready to learn as a team how to maximise sales and profit and meet your stores targets.

  1. ETS ( Education, Training, Skills Services) Teaching Assistant Support x 7

Locations:

3 x Youth Village, North Shields, Hudson Street, NE30 1DL.

4 x Bradford SENDIASS 40-42 Listerhills, Bradford BD7 1HR

Role: an exciting opportunity to support children and young people from the age of 14 plus, in a range of vocational settings. Your day could range from supporting learners in our bespoke hair salons, beauty salons, construction areas to assisting learner to read and work within a classroom setting. 

Positivity, enthusiasm and excellent listening skills are key to this role, to enable children and young people to reach their aims and goals.

  1. Assistant Project Worker – Care Journeys x2

Location; 1 x Brent   1 x Plymouth.

 Roles live from 19th July.

Role; You’ll be part of testing new ways of working for both Barnardo’s and the local authority. As part of the wider team, you will be able to shape how services are delivered for care experienced children and young people. You will help work with care experienced young people in projects designed to create systems change and help deliver a range of engagement activities such as group work.

Positivity, enthusiasm and excellent listening skills are key to this role, to enable children and young people to reach their aims and goals.

We particularly welcome applications from young people who have care experience to allow them to use their lived knowledge to shape Care Journeys strategy to improve outcomes for care experienced young people. 

  1. Innovation Lab Intern x1

Location; Home-based and safe office working at Lynton House office (7-12 Tavistock Square, London WC1H 9LT

Live from 19th July.

Role; As an intern in the Barnardo’s innovation Lab you will contribute to uncovering, discovering and developing new ways to help Barnardo’s improve the lives of children, young people and families in the UK. Day to day this may look like: supporting the team to do research with young people and families through interviews and workshops; supporting the team to design new ideas for Barnardo’s services with young people (for example, young people who have been in care, younger children, young parents and families); learning how to test and improve new digital products such as Journey, an app the Innovation Lab has designed for young people are leaving the care system.
