Full Details

SMF supports ambitious young people from low-income backgrounds to access universities and careers through running free work experience with top companies, university application support and professional development and skills workshops for young people across the UK – including a summer residential in London!

The SMF have two set of criteria:  background and academic ability and Children in Care (Care Leavers) automatically satisfy their “background” criteria!

The SMF recognises that young people who have spent time in care may have had a disrupted education or other difficulties and know that, for some, this means their grades may not truly reflect their ability and their potential.

With this in mind the SMF welcomes applications from young people in care (care leavers), providing:
•  you are planning to applying to university
• you are interested in working in one of the SMF’s professional career areas
• you have a strong supporting reference written by a suitable referee (teacher, social worker etc.) which affirms your academic and professional potential if you missed the required grades.

The SMF has supported a number of care leavers in the past and are looking to help even more.
