Introduction

Wilmot Dixon is a leading construction company and has just been voted to be one of the top five best companies to work for in the UK.

The company currently have sites throughout the country including Ashby De la Zouch, Central Birmingham, Daventry, Kettering, Milton Keynes, Warwick and Wolverhampton expanding to include Sandwell and Shropshire in the summer.

Wilmot Dixon are looking to support care experienced young people start a career in the construction industry by providing the following opportunities at their sites

  1. Construction Career Guidance Sessions (Enrichment)

Willmott Dixon have designed an enrichment programme for young people to gain an insite into the world of construction. Students taking part in the programme will acquire and develop a range of skills and competencies including, creativity, innovation, problem solving, teamwork, communication, careers awareness and more.

The programme is aimed at Year 8 students but can be adapted to suit different year groups It normally runs over 5 (60, 90 or 120 minute)  sessions, one session per week and these incude:

  • Week 1- A visit to a live construction site and meet key people involved in the build
  • Week 2- An overview of Willmott Dixon Construction and speed networking carousel where students meet several different people working in the construction industry and gain an understanding of their roles
  • Week 3- A pratical session where students take on one of the roles from the speed networking event, they work in teams to plan, design, cost and build a structure working from a project brief, the students then present their build back to the rest of the group
  • Week 4- A practical session Green Villages
  • Week 5- A practical session STEM avtivity building a giant tetrahedron

The Enrichment Programme has been accredited by Industrial Cadets and all students taking part will receive a certificate on completion.

  1. Employability Sessions

Designed to help young people build their confidence and skills in readiness to apply for apprenticeship and employment opportunities.  The sessions will include;

  • CV Building
  • Interview techniques
  • Careers advice in the construction sector

 

  1. Placements and Work Experience

Opportunities are available in all disciplines with office-based roles being offered directly by Willmott Dixon and the trade roles via the supply chain partners.

Wilmot Dixon are flexible as to the duration of these opportunities which can run from one day up sessions up to a 10-week summer internship. The summer internships are paid placements and cover technical roles such as Design Management, Surveying, Construction Management.
