About Lawyers Who Care

Lawyers Who Care is the UK’s first mentoring organisation to exists solely for care-experienced aspiring lawyers. Facilitating 1-1 long-term mentoring and leading the landscape on a more standardised paid work experience offer. The organisation was Co-Founded by Lucy Barnes, a care-experienced future pupil barrister at East Anglian Chambers, and Kate Aubrey-Johnson, a leading barrister at Garden Court Chambers’ and youth justice and childrens right specialist. The barriers in which Lucy faced in accessing the profession is what sparked the idea to help those aspiring for a career in law.

Lucy Barnes and Gemma Creamer lead the organisation on a daily basis. Both Lucy and Gemma are care experienced and aspiring into law. They are passionate about supporting care-experienced people into a career in law.

Lucy Barnes is a Future Pupil Barrister at East Anglian Chambers (commencing October 2024). She is also a TEDx speaker, keynote speaker and advocate for care experienced people, particularly in relation to being a part of a more diverse and inclusive profession. She is passionate about bringing trauma-informed law to England and Wales.

Gemma Creamer is a Bar Student currently studying with the Inns of Court College of Advocacy (ICCA) to later qualify as a family barrister.  After moving up to London from her hometown of Brighton back in 2020, Gemma completed her LLB at The University of Greenwich and was awarded the John Bowater Memorial Award for her outstanding voluntary contributions to Law outside of education, including her commitment to improving the prospects of Children in Care coming into the legal profession.
