LocatED is an arm’s-length body to the Department for Education, set up in 2017 to support the delivery of world-class education settings across England.
We work across the full life cycle of property projects: our specialist in-house teams buy, develop, and manage sites for schools and colleges, and sell properties as required. We also provide strategic property advice, to the government and education bodies, to help build a more efficient education estate.
We apply our substantial commercial property expertise to support and advise the Department for Education on its long-term strategy for an efficient education estate. We also empower England’s schools and colleges to self-fund building improvements and release land for housing in areas of high need.
Leading partnerships with the wider property profession, across the government and other agencies, we contribute to cross-departmental aims for the public estate: the levelling up agenda, the provision of housing, and green energy initiatives. And we leverage these relationships to drive better inclusion in the property sector, to improve pathways into the profession and progression for under-represented groups.
Since 2017, we’ve created more than 100,500 new school places, helped future-proof the education estate, and saved millions of pounds for the public purse.
Although a small organisation of 60 people, we are at the forefront of encouraging greater diversity in the property industry. We work with Cabinet Office to support the property profession across government and use our contacts in the education sector to run school work experience programmes, insight days and career networking
