The Care Experienced Movement (CXM) is a dynamic collective of people with care experience, dedicated to driving change in the care system and advocating for care-experienced individuals across the UK. Through a combination of activism, creative expression, and support networks, CXM offers opportunities for care leavers to connect, create, and contribute to their community.
One of the current projects is the Blanket Project, where care leavers are invited to participate in a creative initiative to make heirloom blankets for those who have experienced care. This is just one example of the many ways that CXM encourages care leavers to get involved, express themselves, and build a community of support.
By joining the Care Experienced Movement, you can take part in creative projects, engage to support change, and access support from others who share similar experiences.
Current Offer – Blanket Project
CXM is currently inviting individuals to contribute 20cm x 20cm crocheted or knitted squares for the Blanket Project. These squares will be sewn together to create heirloom blankets for care-experienced people of all ages. It’s a beautiful way to create something meaningful and tangible for those who may not have had the chance to have an heirloom of their own.
Here’s how you can get involved:
- Make a 20cm x 20cm Square: Create your square using yarn of your choice. If you’re unfamiliar with knitting or crochet, there are plenty of online tutorials available, or you can use the templates suggested on the CXM website. You can experiment with colours, textures, and designs to make it your own.
- Send the Squares to CXM: Once you’ve completed your squares, reach out to Rose (rose@careexperiencedmovement.com) to arrange for them to be sent to CXM. They will then be sewn together to form a blanket.
- Join a Creative Movement: This is just one of many creative projects CXM runs. Stay connected through their website and social media to get updates on new creative initiatives, workshops, and opportunities to advocate for care-experienced rights.
