Big Issue Recruit (BIR) is a specialist recruitment service dedicated to supporting individuals who face barriers to employment, with a strong emphasis on building sustainable careers.
As part of our commitment to the Care Leaver Covenant, we will provide tailored support to care leavers aged 18 and above, with a focus on those aged 18–30. Our offer includes:
- Employability Coaching: One-to-one personalised coaching sessions to help care leavers develop CVs, prepare for interviews, and build confidence for the workplace.
- Job Matching & Placement: Access to a wide range of employers and opportunities across multiple sectors, with placements supported by our recruitment specialists.
- Training Opportunities: Referral into further training and skills development programmes through our partner network, particularly for projects requiring minimum entry qualifications.
- Post-Placement Support: Ongoing mentoring and monthly check-ins for up to 6 months after starting work, ensuring long-term retention and progression.
- Peer Support: Access to group sessions where care leavers can share experiences, build networks, and learn from others who have successfully transitioned into work.
- Inclusive Employer Partnerships: We work closely with employers to ensure inclusive recruitment practices, workplace adjustments, and long-term opportunities for progression.
Through this package of support, we aim to empower care leavers to overcome barriers, secure meaningful employment, and build a sustainable career pathway.

About Us
Peer Power Youth is a youth-led charity based in London, working nationally with young people aged 10–25 who have experienced trauma, exclusion, and justice involvement. Many of our team have justice lived experience, which drives our empathetic and youth-centred approach.
Since 2016, we’ve worked with over 1,000 young people and 7,000 professionals to put youth voice at the heart of justice systems, supporting healing over harm.

- Paid opportunities (London Living Wage) to participate in workshops, creative sessions, and co-production activities

What You’ll Do
Your role as a Peer Power Young Partner could involve:
- Shaping services through consultation and co-production
- Speaking truth to power in workshops with decision-makers
- Sharing your experiences to improve the justice systems
- Leading or contributing to creative and community-based projects
- Developing ideas, campaigns, or training with other young people
Who We’re Looking For
If you’re aged 16–25 and have experience of:
- Justice lived experience
- The justice system or secure settings
- Community violence or systemic injustice
We want to hear from you. No experience needed, just a willingness to be heard, learn, and work with others.

We would like to offer care leavers wide ranging support with interview experience, opportunities to visit the stadium and experience a matchday and careers talks for support with next steps.
We also have a Univeristy and Post-16 Programme that creates opportunities to take your first steps in to coaching.
Our Post-16 Programme is delivered in partnership with Sandwell College which allows you to gain a BTEC qualification. We also offer a Univeristy Programme that supports a qualification into coaching and we are happy to offer interview places for the Programme.
There are also Voluntary Work Experience Placements which are available throughout the Academic Year and during holidays.
And for young people already on our programme we can offer 4 young people access to the Supporter to Reporter Programme
