Location: National

What is Connecting Care?

Connecting Care is a programme delivered through local community foundations to provide care leavers with practical support and opportunities as they move into adulthood.

The programme can support you with things that can make a difference as you move towards work, education, training, independent living and wellbeing.

The support available is different in each area, so the first step is to find out what is available in your community.

What Support Could Be Available?

Depending on where you live, support could include:

Work, Education and Training

  • Careers advice and coaching
  • Mentoring
  • Work placements and volunteering
  • Support to explore employment and training opportunities
  • Help with practical costs that could otherwise prevent you from taking up work, education or training

Wellbeing and Activities

You may also be able to access support such as:

  • Counselling
  • Art therapy
  • Sport and wellbeing activities
  • Music, theatre and cultural activities
  • Opportunities to try new activities and develop your interests

Housing and Independent Living

Support may also be available to help you prepare for and manage independent living, including:

  • Tenancy and independent living support
  • Help with essential items for your home
  • Support with practical costs associated with setting up or maintaining your home

Travel and Other Practical Support

Depending on your local offer, this could include:

  • Help with travel costs
  • Driving lessons
  • Other practical support to help remove barriers to work, study or training

Is Support Available Where I Live?

Support is different in each community. Each participating community foundation works with care-experienced young people locally to understand what support is most useful in their area.

Not every type of support listed above will be available everywhere.
