About Us

Stonbury is a specialist contractor working in the water, wastewater and environmental sectors. Our teams deliver engineering and environmental solutions that help maintain and improve vital water infrastructure across the UK.

For more than 40 years we have worked with water companies, the Environment Agency and other partners to maintain reservoirs, rivers, treatment facilities and environmental habitats. Our work helps protect water resources, extend the life of infrastructure and improve the natural environment.

Stonbury has grown significantly in recent years and continues to expand its workforce across the UK. This growth creates exciting opportunities for people starting their careers in engineering, construction and environmental services.

A Place to Build Your Future

At Stonbury, we believe potential matters more than background. Many of our team members joined the company with little or no industry experience and have developed their careers through practical learning, training and support.

We are committed to creating opportunities for young people to access meaningful careers where they can develop valuable skills and gain hands-on experience in the workplace.

Whether you are interested in working outdoors, learning technical skills or exploring careers in engineering and construction, Stonbury offers opportunities to get started.

Early Careers Opportunities

Entry-Level Roles – Opportunities to join operational teams and gain practical experience while learning on the job alongside experienced colleagues.

Apprenticeships – Structured programmes that combine paid work with formal training and qualifications in areas such as:
• Civil Engineering
• Quantity Surveying
• Construction and infrastructure roles

Apprentices work as part of real project teams while developing their skills and working towards recognised qualifications.

Trainee Site Operative Roles – Hands-on roles supporting teams delivering water, wastewater and environmental infrastructure projects. These positions provide practical experience and can lead to further training and career progression.

Work Experience Opportunities – Short placements that provide an insight into the industry and help young people explore different career pathways within the company.

Why Working Here Is More Than Just a Job

Build practical skills – You’ll gain hands-on experience working alongside experienced engineers, project managers and site teams.

Work on meaningful projects – Our teams deliver projects that protect water resources, improve environmental habitats and maintain essential infrastructure that communities rely on every day.

Learn and develop – Stonbury supports employees through training, mentoring and development opportunities to help them grow their skills and progress their careers.

Be part of a supportive team – We pride ourselves on having a collaborative and supportive culture where people take pride in their work and help each other succeed.

Our Offer

Starting a career can feel challenging, particularly without access to traditional support networks. As part of this initiative, Stonbury aims to support care experienced young people by helping them explore opportunities within the company.

This may include:

  • Guidance on career pathways within construction, engineering and environmental services
  • Advice on preparing CVs and applications
  • Support in preparing for interviews
  • Opportunities to gain work experience and explore the industry

Young people may also be able to connect with a member of Stonbury’s People team who can help guide them through available opportunities and the recruitment process.

This support may initially be piloted within specific regions as the programme develops, with the ambition to expand further over time.
