We are keen to give care leavers a strong start in their career in Traffic Management by providing full training through the Lead Traffic Management Apprenticeship. As part of the apprenticeship, you may also be eligible for the £3,000 Apprenticeship Care Leavers’ Bursary (subject to eligibility – see GOV.UK guidance), as well as one-to-one mentorship and full PPE (personal protective equipment).
With our team of in-house trainers, we will support and guide you in gaining relevant qualifications, enabling you to progress within the business.

Core Highways is one of the largest traffic management companies in the UK, supporting major road and infrastructure projects across the country.
As a signatory of the Care Leaver Covenant, Core Highways is committed to supporting care experienced young people to access opportunities and begin building their careers.
You will have the opportunity to work in roles supporting traffic management teams on active highways. This can include helping to set up and manage safe traffic routes around roadworks, supporting road safety measures, and working as part of a team to keep road users and workers safe. You will be responsible for creating a safe workspace by setting out traffic cones and signage in accordance with a traffic management plan and in line with National Highways Sector Schemes 12D, 12AB and 12C.

The apprenticeship offers a structured pathway into the industry, which can be especially valuable for those who are new to this type of work, helping to build skills, confidence and experience step by step.

You will receive ongoing training and support to help you develop the skills required for the role. When starting out, you will work alongside experienced team members who can provide guidance and help you build confidence on site. With our team of in-house trainers, we will support and guide you in gaining relevant qualifications, enabling you to progress within the business.
Working in traffic management can offer long-term career opportunities within the highways and infrastructure sector. Core Highways has a strong track record of supporting people to develop their skills and progress within the organisation. With experience and additional training, you may have opportunities to move into more senior roles over time.
This work takes place outdoors and will require the use of personal protective equipment such as high-visibility clothing, which Core Highways will provide. Standard workplace safety requirements, including drug and alcohol testing, will apply.
