Pre and post release training and career support

Summary: We offer tailored support to care leavers both pre- and post-release.

Further Details:

The Clink Charity is dedicated to transforming lives and reducing reoffending through its comprehensive rehabilitation programmes.  The Clink delivers training and support to care leavers pre-release, enabling them to gain City & Guilds National Vocational Qualifications in sectors such as catering and horticulture.  Our mission is to equip individuals with the skills and qualifications needed for successful reintegration into the community, helping to break the cycle of reoffending and create second chances.

Support Available to Care Leavers

The Clink recognises the high number of individuals with a care-experienced background within the prison system. To address this, we offer tailored support to care leavers both pre- and post-release.

Our national network of resettlement support workers is dedicated to working with care-experienced individuals for approximately three months before their release and continuing this support once they return to the community.

Care leavers who participate in our programmes will receive:

  • Personalised Support: Our support workers will identify and address the unique challenges faced by care leavers, providing ongoing mentorship and guidance throughout their transition.
  • Training and Employment Opportunities: Access to accredited vocational training in areas such as catering, horticulture, and event management. Our training programmes simulate professional working environments, giving participants real world experience and enhancing their employability prospects.

Awareness and Advocacy: The Clink is committed to raising awareness of the specific needs of care leavers within the criminal justice system. We work collaboratively with our partners, employers, and policymakers to influence positive change and address the overrepresentation of care-experienced individuals in the prison system.  We will promote access to the Care Leaver Covenant’s Connects opportunities to enable access to discounts and job opportunities which will support successful outcomes and reintegration into the community

Next Steps

Care leavers interested in participating in The Clink’s programmes will receive support beginning around three months before their release and continuing into the community once they have been released from prison. This support will include personalised mentorship and assistance with training and employment opportunities.
