The Opportunity

We are looking for someone who has lived experience of care who can join us as we develop the support offered to those in and leaving care. Your own experience, as well as the ability to build relationships, influence different ways of thinking and approach your work in an organized and effective manner, will be invaluable to this piece of work.

Our Children and Families service is recognised for a culture of working together with partners delivering a range of early help, family support and effective social work interventions which build resilience, remove barriers, and enable children and young people to look forward to a brighter future. However, we never stop looking at how we can improve our services and build on those outstanding foundations and this project will do just that.

The Peer Support and Research Officer will work alongside the Involvement Service to design and deliver a peer support and research project that will enhance our understanding of the lived experience of young people in care and leaving care.

You will assist in the evaluation of the Essex Staying Close Pilot, which offers enhanced support to young people in and leaving care up to 25 years old.

You will use your own lived experience of care and leaving care to build positive relationships with young people, build understanding and improve services within Essex County Council.

This position is office based in Witham, you will need to be operational across Essex. A driving licence and use of car is not essential; however, you will need to be confident at using public transport to travel across Essex.

  • 3 care leavers will be offered 1-week work experience.

  • 5 care leavers will receive financial support of £20 per person for interview travel costs (you’ll need to provide written evidence of interview offer and attendance).
  • 1 care leaver will be supported to buy clothing for interviews (up to the value of £50).

Interview and work experience applicants must be over 18 to comply with the companies Health & Safety requirements. The roles are physically demanding and involve working outside in all weather conditions. Standard working hours are during the day, however, if required by our clients, nighttime work is a requirement.

Evidence of interview and attendance must be submitted for travel costs to be reimbursed.

Work experience placements will be awarded following a successful interview. Clothing support applicants must provide evidence of interview applications.

Role Overview:

As the Project Information Coordinator, you’ll manage GMI’s Information Management systems, including Viewpoint for Projects, Field View, SharePoint, Operating Framework, and Email Management.

Key Deliverables:

  • Coordinate Info Management Systems for seamless operation on sites.
  • Support site teams with regular visits.
  • Ensure teams adhere to GMI’s protocols.
  • Conduct audits and project reporting.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Report to Divisional Information Manager.
  • Perform QA checks on drawings/documents.
  • Monitor documentation status and ensure compliance.
  • Train staff/clients/consultants/subcontractors.
  • Conduct audits and produce detailed reports.
  • Provide holiday/sickness cover.

  • Conduct regular site visits for support.
  • Coordinate Field View for sites.

Experience & Qualifications:

  • Willingness to learn new tech/software.
  • Proficient in English and MS packages.
  • Full Driving Licence required.
  • Proactive, hardworking, and reliable.
  • Strong communication and organisational skills.
  • Educated to GCSE level or equivalent.
  • Understanding of ISO 19650 and ISO 27001.

Salary: £20,000 + £3k Car Allowance
