Beam is on a mission to create equality of opportunity at scale, by crowdfunding brighter futures for homeless people, refugees and prison leavers. Working in partnership with registered charities and local authorities, Beam is helping hundreds of people to gain work in sectors facing critical skills shortages, and move into stable housing.
Beam removes all barriers to work and housing, including training, smartphones, transport and more, so care leavers have everything they need to find a job and move into a home. Using the power of community everything is funded by members of the public through our:
Care leavers who become a member of Beam will be assigned a dedicated case worker who will work with them to define a personal budget needed to get them into housing and/or stable employment. Training courses are provided by third party providers and are in a range of disciplines from electricians to accounting. For tenancy support, Beam will help the care leaver work out their property size entitlement, housing benefit based on borough and property size, plus budgeting for bills and factoring in changes in work status.
Throughout a care leavers journey with Beam, they will receive dedicated support and access to the Beam Hub where they get the following:
- Get real-time support from their Beam caseworker, using Whatsapp, SMS & Zoom
- Access new job opportunities matched to their preferences and book interviews
- Easily & safely engage with the Beam community
- Build digital skills to support them in engaging with other services
