Become Services & Opportunities
- Care Advice Service – care experienced children and young people, and professionals and care-givers supporting them, can call the Care Advice Line for free for advice on the rights & entitlements of children in care and young care leavers. Free 1-hour workshops on Rights and Entitlements of care leavers for young people (15 – 25 years) – we partner organisations convene groups interested.
- Propel – HE & FE– Information, advice and 1-2-1 support for young care leavers looking towards Further Education & Higher Education; free 1-hour workshops for young people on Applying for HE for care leavers and Funding for HE for care leavers (both for 16 – 27 year-olds) – partner organisations convene groups of young people interested.
- Propel Vocational– A new vocational strand of Propel, which will feature a 1-2-1 advice and support service, workshops focusing on skills for work and a new area of the Propel website dedicated to apprenticeships and career opportunities. We are currently taking referrals for individuals and early expressions of interest for workshops via [email protected].
- Group and 1-2-1 Coaching– setting and working towards young people’s longer-term goals relating to e.g. time management, education, expanding social networks, starting a business and more; this is delivered through six initial 1-2-1 coaching sessions for young people: we also have 3 x standalone Group Coaching Workshops we can deliver with groups of young care leavers in partnership with partner organisations, on ‘Goal-setting’, ‘Time Management’, and ‘Confidence & Self-love’.
- Become the Movement – Our co-production and participation opportunities for YP; everything from campaigning to government, councils and MPs to fight for systematic change, through to internal opportunities to inform Become’s services, staff recruitment and policies.
- Link Up – We host in-person and online Link-Ups for care-experienced young people aged 18-27 can come together to chat, develop a sense of community, and have fun together.
Training for Professionals
We also deliver Training, aiming to build the knowledge, skills and confidence of those professionals and care-givers working with and supporting care experienced children and young people. We deliver off-the-shelf training titles (half and full day), and more bespoke training on request. We have recently delivered units to Ofsted, Barnados and the Girl Guides, HMP Prison staff, as well as on university Teacher Training courses and for multiple local authorities’ Personal Adviser teams; we are beginning to deliver to NHS Trusts involved in the Universal Family Programme aiming to recruit care experienced young people to roles.
