Community Support Worker Role

Contract: Full-Time
Salary: £27,007
Hours: 37.5 hours per week (including weekends)

Barnet Mencap is currently recruiting for Community Support Workers to join their Equality Housing Team, supporting adults with moderate learning disabilities and autistic adults to live independently in homes of their choice.

You’ll be doing a role that has real purpose, helping people build confidence, develop life skills, and stay connected to their community.

What You’ll Do

In this role, you will:

  • Support individuals to live independently in their own homes
  • Help with everyday life skills such as shopping, cooking, and managing routines
  • Support people to access their community and build social connections
  • Provide practical, emotional, and social support
  • Support with personal care where required
  • Keep clear records and communicate effectively with the team

All support is delivered using a person-centred approach, focused on each individual’s goals, choices, and independence.

Training & Development

Funded Apprenticeship

After 6 months in the role, you can access:

  • A fully funded Level 3 Apprenticeship in Lead Adult Care
  • An 18-month structured programme
  • A recognised qualification to support your long-term career in health and social care
  • Ongoing support while you learn and work

Ongoing Support

You won’t be expected to figure things out alone. Barnet Mencap provides:

  • Shadowing opportunities when you start
  • A longer, supportive induction period
  • Regular 1:1 check-ins
  • Flexibility to explore different types of support work (home-based and outreach) to find what suits you best

Who we’re Looking For

Barnet Mencap values lived experience, especially from care-experienced young people.

No previous experience in social care is required – full training and support will be provided.

They are looking for:

  • Strong communication and people skills
  • Life skills (e.g. cooking, shopping, daily routines)
  • Understanding or interest in supporting people with learning disabilities and autistic people
  • A caring, reliable, and positive attitude

Your lived experience is seen as a key strength, and we will look at this rather than formal education.

This Role Is Ideal If You:

  • Want to use your life experience to help others
  • Enjoy working with people and building relationships
  • Are looking for a meaningful, stable career
  • Want to gain skills and qualifications while working
  • Are interested in health and social care

  • Access to a Blue Light Card (discounts on shopping, travel, and more)
  • Ongoing training and development
  • A supportive, friendly, and inclusive team
