Adelphi – Adulting, Together®
Flexible, Practical & Ongoing Support for Care-Experienced Young People
Location: National (online, digital and selected face-to-face support)
What is Adelphi?
Adelphi is here to support you as you figure out independence, work, education, housing and what comes next.
A lot of the time, people are expected to suddenly “just know” how to do adulthood.
But the reality is, not everyone starts from the same place and support can look very different depending on your situation, postcode or who’s around you.
That’s why Adelphi exists.
It’s not about having everything sorted already.
It’s not about being perfect.
And it’s definitely not about judgement.
It’s about having support that feels realistic, practical and genuinely useful.
You’ll have access to:
- A free digital platform with 70+ guides
- Practical support initiatives
- Specialist signposting
- Ongoing guidance you can come back to when needed
- Opportunities to engage with talks, workshops and events through organisations working with Adelphi
Everything is designed to work together, so support doesn’t just exist in one moment and disappear.
Why Adelphi Exists
A lot of the challenges young people face are not about ability.
Often, they come from:
- Feeling unsupported or alone
- Lack of confidence or self-belief
- Limited access to consistent guidance
- Feeling unsure where to start
- Not understanding systems, rights or responsibilities
- Having to navigate adulthood earlier than peers
Adelphi exists because founder Bethaney Dixon understands many of those challenges first-hand.
Bethaney grew up in foster care and experienced the transition into independence at 17. Like many care-experienced young people, she quickly found herself navigating adulthood, housing, employment, finances and life decisions without the same support networks many of her peers could rely on.
Over the years, she built a successful career across multiple industries, progressing from frontline customer service roles into leadership, training and organisational development positions. Along the way, she realised something important:
A lot of people are not struggling because they lack potential. They’re struggling because they have not always had access to the right information, support, opportunities or people around them.
That realisation became Adelphi.
Today, Adelphi combines both lived experience and professional expertise to create support that feels practical, relatable and genuinely useful.
The goal is not just helping you access opportunities.
It’s helping you feel confident enough to take them, helping you understand your options and helping you build independence at your own pace.
And most importantly, it’s helping you remember that whatever your circumstances look like right now, they do not define your future.
Because adulting shouldn’t mean doing it alone.
Free Digital Platform
Adelphi’s platform will always remain free for care-experienced young people and care leavers.
The platform currently includes 70+ guides across key areas of adulthood and independence, including:
- Living & Housing
- Money & Budgeting
- Work & Career
- Health & Wellbeing
- Communication & Relationships
- Identity & Confidence
- Education & Development
- Practical Skills & Life Admin
- Support & Community
The platform is designed to support both the practical side of independence and the emotional side that people do not always talk about enough.
Support is available anytime and designed to be clear, relatable and easy to understand without overwhelming jargon.
You can access support at your own pace and come back whenever you need to.
Everything is written in a way that aims to feel human, supportive and realistic.
Specialist Signposting
Sometimes support needs to go beyond guides or general advice.
Adelphi also provides specialist signposting to organisations, services and support networks that may be able to help with specific situations or challenges.
This may include support around:
- Housing and homelessness
- Mental health and wellbeing
- Employment and education
- Financial support
- Crisis support
- Advocacy and rights
- Community organisations and local services
The aim is to help you find the right support more easily, without feeling like you have to figure everything out alone.
Practical Support & Initiatives
Moving & Home Set Up Support
Moving home can feel stressful and overwhelming, especially when trying to manage bills, suppliers and everything else that comes with setting up a home for the first time.
Through Adelphi’s moving support initiative, partnered with Just Move In, care experienced people of any age can access free support designed to help make moving feel less overwhelming and more manageable.
Support may include:
- Help setting up household bills and utilities
- Comparing providers
- Guidance through moving processes
- Reducing some of the admin and pressure that comes with moving – all in one place
Discounted Driving Lessons through Drive 2 Thrive
Driving lessons can be expensive, but transport and independence can make a huge difference to work, education and confidence.
Through Adelphi’s Drive 2 Thrive initiative, care-experienced people can access discounted driving lessons through two different national providers – all depending on how you’d like to learn. This includes National Intensive Ltd, if you’re in a position to do an intensive course, but also BookInstructor.co.uk for hourly lessons.
Driving can help improve:
- Access to employment
- Access to education and opportunities
- Confidence and independence
- Mobility and flexibility
Local Authorities have been provided codes to book direct (definitely see if they can support in any way!) But you also have the ability to contact these providers directly, as we understand not everyone is in touch with formal services.
Once eligibility is confirmed, the discount works out around 20% off!
Energy & Everyday Living Support
Adelphi also shares support around understanding bills, managing energy use and building confidence around independent living.
Sometimes the hardest part is not doing something wrong, it is simply never being shown properly in the first place.
The aim is to help make everyday life feel less confusing and overwhelming.
Workshops, Talks & Events
Alongside the platform and initiatives, Adelphi also works with Local Authorities, organisations and services to provide workshops, talks and development sessions for care-experienced young people.
Topics may include:
- Confidence and self-worth
- CVs and interviews
- Professional environments
- Emotional wellbeing
- Boundaries and relationships
- Money and budgeting
- Understanding your rights
- Independence and life skills
These sessions are designed to feel supportive, honest and practical rather than formal or intimidating.
Support may be delivered online or face-to-face depending on the organisation or programme involved.
Founder Bethaney Dixon also delivers talks, panels and events, so you may also see her involved in wider conversations around care experience, confidence, inclusion and independence.
More Than Support
Adelphi was built from both lived and professional experience.
A lot of people talk about independence like it is simple, but the reality is it can sometimes feel overwhelming, isolating and confusing.
Adelphi exists to help bridge the gap between systems and real life by providing guidance that feels human, accessible and genuinely useful.
Alongside support and initiatives, Adelphi also focuses on representation, confidence and community. This includes projects like Adelphi Apparel, designed around the reminder that people are always more than a label.
Everything is designed to help care-experienced young people feel:
- More informed
- More confident
- More supported
- More capable
- Less alone
Because adulting shouldn’t mean doing it alone.
