IKEA offers well-designed, functional, and affordable, high-quality home furnishing, produced with care for people and the environment.
Through its commitment to the Care Leaver Covenant, IKEA is providing specific support to help care leavers set up their own home, alongside highlighting other IKEA services and benefits that may be useful as they move towards independent living.
For Local Authorities – 5% discount to support care leavers
IKEA will provide Local Authorities with a 5% discount on purchases made to support care leavers transitioning into independent living.
All Local Authorities can register through a dedicated IKEA care leaver portal. Once registered, the portal will provide a curated shopping experience designed to make it easier to plan and purchase the items care leavers need for their home. This could range from putting together a full bedroom to selecting individual items needed to complete a room.
The portal is for online purchases only, with Click & Collect available. There is currently no direct in-store offer.
Prices displayed through the portal will clearly show the 5% discounted price, making it easy to see the saving and plan purchases within the funding available.
For care leavers – Making the most of IKEA Family
IKEA Family is free to join and can help you make more of your visits to IKEA, with member prices on selected products and rewards that can help your money go further when shopping for your home.
Membership also includes benefits such as workshops and events, digital receipts and accidental damage protection during transport.
IKEA Family members can also enjoy free tea or coffee in participating IKEA restaurants on weekdays. This could be particularly useful if you are visiting IKEA with your Personal Adviser, support worker or someone else supporting you, giving you a convenient place to sit together over a drink, talk through what you need for your home and plan your shopping.
For care leavers with young children – Free supervised play at Småland
If you have young children, Småland can make a trip to IKEA a little easier. At participating stores, children aged 3–10 years can enjoy up to 60 minutes of free supervised play, while you have time to shop for your home.
Parents or carers remain in the IKEA store while their child enjoys the play area. You can find out more about Småland and check availability at your local IKEA here:

IKEA’s commitment to supporting care experienced young people
IKEA has developed their ‘Better Neighbourhoods’ Approach to support the local communities in which they operate. The approach focuses on working with strategic charity partners to develop programmes that create better homes, better employment and better communities across the UK & Ireland. One of these partners is Barnardos, where for over 9 years IKEA has worked with them to support care experienced young people in a variety of ways including funding their support programmes, donating IKEA products and services, volunteering staff time and running the Barnardos JOBS programme with our stores.
