Black Country Housing Group (BCHG) is a social business that is investing in people and communities in the Black Country. We have over 2,200 homes, one purpose built Residential Care Home as well as six retirement living schemes and supported living schemes. We are more than a registered provider of social housing, we support our local communities by offering free services that help individuals with self-achievement and aspiration through our career development, training and employment services and that already includes care leavers. Our Values are not just a set of words, but are at the heart of the way our organisation works and how our colleagues interact in their day-to-day activities.

To support Care Leavers, BCHG will advertise all relevant apprenticeships including Multi-trades, Electrical , Marketing and Communications and Grounds maintenance as they become available and promote other training and support that we have through the Care Leaver Covenant Team.

At the moment we have opportunities to get involved in Foundations for Life, this project aims to improve outcomes for care experienced young people living in supported accommodation by embedding a programme of independent living skills into organisations, working in partnership with the young people and the providers. As part of this we are developing a number of train the trainer sessions looking at different aspect of independent living skills including moving in moving on, money skills, preparing for work, personal hygiene and healthy eating.

To help us ensure the training materials address the barriers that care experienced young people face when moving into independent living we would like to speak to those with lived experience. To do this we will be holding brief and very informal discussions with those who have left care to explore any barriers/challenges they faced. We can do this on a one to one and this can be done wherever is most convenient for the young person, including online or on the phone and will give a £10 love to shop voucher to those involved as a thank you for their time and input.
