Telford College aims to make a significant difference to the lives of the communities we serve. We are already ticking many of the boxes with our growing range of Employer Hubs that promote greater collaboration with key employers and open up exciting new career opportunities.

Our blended learning model takes full advantage of emerging technology and are focused on providing a workforce which is fit for the future.

As part of this approach we want to offer a unique programme which aimed at Care Experienced Young people who want to progress into employment within the NHS, Health and Social Care or progress and onto the next level of study.

As part of this programme we will work with colleagues from the Integrated Care System which oversees hospital and care providers in Telford and Shropshire area to source valuable work placements and to build a progression route into the Health and Care sector.

The programme we will offer is made up of different topics such as customer service, introduction to health care, introduction into dementia and Professional development. You will also get the opportunity to use our practical clinical skills centre and simulation suite to experience basic first aid skills.

The course will offer CV writing support and several local employers including the NHS will visit during the duration of the course to discuss vacancies and support you to apply for jobs in the sector or continue with your studies at the college.

This free short course is a stepping stone into a career in the sector. There are opportunities to have some work experience and you will be supported through an English and maths assessment.

Individuals who have completed this course to date have gone on to further study at the college, including English and Maths qualifications or Access to Higher Education, or into employment, for example as a health care support worker in the NHS.

 

The Programme

Duration – 3 Days Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday 9.30pm-2.30pm for 3 weeks

  • Introduction to Health and Social Care and Children’s and Young People’s Settings – Level 1
  • Customer Service – Level 2
  • Personal Development for Employability – Level 1
  • Dementia Awareness
  • Introduction to First Aid
  • Opportunity to enter employment in the sector
  • Progression to Health Care Support Worker Academy (subject to normal recruitment)
  • Progression onto other level 2 courses
  • Access to Higher Education or Higher Technical Qualifications.

 

Tokens to cover lunch and refreshment costs will be provided
