Further Details:

St John Ambulance are a proud signatory of the Care Leaver Covenant, and we would like to encourage young people to join our Young Responder taster sessions.

Calling all care leaver supporting organisations in London, the West Midlands, and the Northeast! We have an exciting opportunity that will equip care-experienced individuals aged 11 to 25 with essential life-saving skills tailored specifically to their lives and communities. Help teach young people to be able to respond to health-related incidents by enrolling them in our Young Responders programme.

We will provide participants with a choice of physical, mental health, and street violence first aid skills through interactive and context-based training. By participating in our programme, care-experienced individuals will gain the knowledge and confidence to respond appropriately during challenging situations.

As a care leaver supporting organisation, you can sign up groups of young people to experience our 2-hour taster first aid session. A qualified St John Ambulance Facilitator will deliver this session at a venue, date, and time of your choice (subject to staff availability).

Groups may sign up for more than one type of taster session if they wish. Each session offers a range of topic choices, including:

  • Physical health first aid: CRP, Recovery Position, Minor Bleeding, Choking
  • Mental health first aid: Exploring mental health and mental ill-health, recognising signs of distress and signposting to support or identifying self-help strategies,
  • Street Violence first aid: Catastrophic Bleeding, Embedded Objects, Alcohol and Drug Intoxication, Spiking, Head Injury, Acid Attack.
Next Steps

Organisations must sign up groups of young people to the Young Responders programme.

To do this they should contact the Partnership Manager (Lucy Fisher) via email at lucy.fisher@sja.org.uk to organise a meeting and discuss their requirements. Young people interested in the programme should speak to a professional supporting them.
