University of Roehampton (I-CAN Project)

I-CAN is designed to support care experienced young adults aged 18 to 29 into healthcare careers.

It is led by the University of Roehampton and supported by Southwest London’s Integrated Care Partnership.  We work with healthcare employers, industry professionals and specialist charities to equip learners with essential skills needed to pursue a career in the health care sector.

As part of a 12-month pilot programme, I-CAN will offer two eight- week training courses for learners to gain:

  • Hands-on skills development training covering a range of modules including from person-centred care to basic life support.
  • Employer talks to explore different routes into healthcare career paths.
  • Tailored advice and guidance.
  • Personal development and employability support.
  • Workplace tours.
  • Access to mental and wellbeing support.
  • Travel costs and lunch covered.
  • Financial Incentive upon completion.

Sessions usually run every Wednesday over half a day for eight-consecutive weeks.

Taster Days

These sessions are informative and fun. It involves a campus tour, practical activities and talks to find out about the support services and financial incentives available for I-CAN learners. It’s also a great opportunity to get insight into university life from current students.

Eligibility Criteria

A London Borough resident aged 18-29 years old, with a genuine interest in pursuing a career in Health and Social Care. You must be able to travel to Roehampton University campus for each training session.  You must also be willing to complete Initial Assessments for Math’s and English.
