Lloyds Banking Group – Halifax Bank, Lloyds Bank, Bank of Scotland
Summary:
At Lloyds Banking Group we want to make it as simple and easy as possible for Care Leavers and Care Experienced young people to open an account with us.
How It Works:
To open an account, you’ll need to provide proof of identification and proof of address – and now we’re able to accept a letter from your Pathway Advisor / Personal Advisor or another trusted professional who is supporting you, such as a social worker, for one of these documents.
Here are the things they will need to include in your letter:
-
- Confirmation of your full name, date of birth and full address
- Be presented on headed paper – Note: Printed copies and electronic versions aren’t acceptable.
- Confirm their full name and position of employment with the organisation.
- Be signed and dated by the Introducer, not a Per Procurationem (PP), with a wet signature.
- Confirm their professional relationship with you e.g. supporting you to live independently as part of pathway plan.
- Include their phone number.
- Be dated and sent in the last month.
Please see our template letter layout for your supporting introducer:
You can find out what you can also use to support your application on our websites here:

- Halifax UK | Proving your identity | Security and privacy
- Proof of identity | Legal | Lloyds Bank
Here’s how to get started:
Follow the digital journey to open an account, making sure the personal information you enter matches exactly to your ID and address confirmations.
You can use this link here to get you to the right place where you can open an account.
- At the ID stage, unless you have biometric documents, the application will be saved and you will need to go into branch to complete your application (you should do this within 14 days of completing the application)
- Visit your local Lloyds, Bank of Scotland or Halifax branch – there’s no need to book an appointment. You can find your nearest branch here:
- Let the branch colleague know you have brought in your identification to complete your new account opening through the Care Leaver account opening process. If possible, have the reference number that will have been emailed to you when you started your application to show the colleague.
- The branch colleague will complete your application using your identification, and in most cases will be able to provide you with your new sort code and account number for your new account immediately. They will also help you set up your mobile banking app
You’re then all set to use your account
This process is designed to make banking accessible and supportive, so you can get your account quickly and confidently. If you do have any questions please message, call or visit Lloyds, Halifax or Bank of Scotland for help
